I continue to slam my head against my keyboard. In a hyper slow motion I catch my eyes changing colors from red to green. My pupils dilated, my forehead bruising. The constant deformation of my brain in motion spilling myself dry. Never before have I felt this sense of relief. This open ended explosion of hatred towards this light. Penetrating my thoughts I try and run but I am stopped just inches away by this ball and chain. Constricted and confused I shake vigorously to try and break free. With the energy lost I am left empty and parched begging for a break. Slithering down into my own self destruction I begin to cry. Crying out in exhaustion and weakness I look to the sky. Searching for wonders and sights I find a blank blue canvas. In my own twisted imagination I reach to my left and grab the blue bucket. I then stroke my paint brush over that same sky the same shade of blue as the last. Tilting my head in appreciation I daze off sleeping from dreams. I awake to the new sky, the same blue as the previous. Arising from my sleep I grin and walk out to the porch and proceed with my day. That day will be the same as the previous and the coming...

Death has risen before me and I have shaken his hand

Today I was asked the question "Where is your life going?"

It got me thinking about the question, does any person "know" where there life is going?

Do we plan out our lives? Or do we just play the by standard in this roller coaster life?

Can we actually "plan" out our life? or do we just try and make it go the way we want it?

Does God play a factor in planning our life?

If he does, can we alter his plan?

If we control our own life and plan it ourselves, then why doesn't it go the way we planned?

Are we actually "controlling" anything?

And if we do control our life does that mean we have some sort of power?

When do we begin to take "control" of our lives?

Does the controlling of our lives differ in our age? Or are we always somehow in control?

What kind of control do we have?

What part of our life do we control? Or do we control all of it?

Does God ever get any credit?

Why is it that when life goes "wrong" to our plan, we blame God?

But when life is good, who needs God?

Selfishly do we expect God to just make everything "okay" when things go wrong?

Can anyone rely on God all of the time? No matter what sort of ride we are on.

Do we ever do anything for others purely just out of goodness? Or is it always deep selfishness.

Do we do things thinking we will receive something?

Can we as people handle the fact that we can't do anything on our own?

Can we deal with the fact that we are weak?

Could you deal with someone you have never met running your life?

If everyone believed in the same god would that change anything?

Would we be able to stop the war if God was the center of our beliefs?

Are humans capable of changing dramatically just by changing beliefs?

Can a human change in general?

If everyone in the whole entire world decided to believe in Jesus Christ and His teachings would that result in peace?

As human beings just believing in the same god doesn't change the fact that we are selfish.

So why do we believe in God in the first place?

If believing in God didn't bring peace to all nations then what would?

Can we change our human nature?

Are we all born evil and some choose to be good?

What is good and evil?

How does a non religious person define good and evil?

If there was no law from the bible then how would you define good and evil?

Is good and evil a state of mind or an action?

If everyone wants world peace then how come we still lie, cheat, and steal?

How come everyone thinks everyone else should change and not themselves?

The under lit Christmas lights on the tree glistened with a dim sadness

The boy sat and drank his hot coco staring out the frosty winter frozen window

The Life of Love

Dressed to the T, the ballroom awaited him. Strolling up the stairs the two guards covered with red garments swung the ballroom doors open. Crossing over from civilization to fantasy he stepped into the ball. His top hat stood tall, black and feathered. South of his brim he wore a penguin suit flowing tailored to his body. The music was blaring and laughter filled his ears. The dancing people were swaying and spinning. He made his way through the crowds heading straight for the bar. "What to drink tonight sir?" The tender blurting out to the man as if he was awaiting his arrival. The finely dressed man returned with the words "Scotch on the rocks my good man." "Yes, yes of course." the tender replied. "Anything for the Mrs. sir?" "No thank, no Mrs." "My apologizes sir." The top hat man turned around and leaned his back up against the long dark wooden bar. Softly speaking to himself he says "Let the games begin..." The tender with a confused look on his face says "Excuse me sir?" Turning back around the top hat man returned his question with "Oh nothing good man, oh nothing." Breaking immediately away from the bar into the ballroom. Gazing upon the women dancing , ruling out almost each and everyone of them as if he already had a face in mind. The ball was decorated with great crystallized chandeliers and white flowers running along the stair banisters. As he brushes by couple after couple he keeps his eyes peeled, searching. Finally catching her eyes, he breaks through the floor like a dog on a scent. He slows as he approaches this woman from behind. He leans his chin over her shoulder and whispers, "My it has been too long." He could feel her smile illuminating. She whips around, now standing within inches of his chest. She stood just barely under his chin. Looking up to him she says "Shall we dance then?" As soon as they met each others hands they were off. Everything fell into place, as if nothing was ever lost. That night turned into days and the days turned into years. They lived in unison from that night forward bringing their fantasies to life.

Candle lit, sitting at his desk he writes

Pondering of words to scribble he paces

Shelves and shelves of books

Dusty and old he runs his fingers along the bindings

His thoughts over lapping with the night

A knock at the door behind him he turns

Knowing the company on the other side

He sits on the king chair to his right

Standing back up to walk towards the door

Veering away from the wooden door

Shaking his head he sits back down

The knock comes again startling the man

Darting towards the door

Pressing his cheek to the wood

Petting the ripples in the barrier

The rain continues to pour down

Like the woman weeping outside

Hearing her sobbing brings tears to brink of his eyes

A letter is pushed underneath the door and the weeping fades away

The man snatches the letter and while reading, the tears start to fall

He slides down to the floor curling into a ball he grips the letter

Laying there he realizes the hurt he has inflicted on himself

Thoughts swarm into his mind

His crying turns silent like the old country night

Rolling over in his pool of tears looking to the ceiling

Sprawled out on the floor covering his face with his hands

Picking himself up he goes back to his desk

Sitting in his rickety old chair he swivels around facing the window

Still thinking of the right words to write he sips his tea

Dipping his pen in ink he begins

"Dear woman,

I love you with all of my heart."

He stops rereads it and starts the next line

"I am sorry"

He folds the letter and slips it into a envelope

Sighing aloud to himself as if it took all of his efforts

Navigating himself to the door

Unhinging the wood from the wood it swings wide open

Peeking around the corner seeing no sign of human life

He hurries through the halls to the mail room in the lobby

Shoving the envelope into its proper box turning around to check if anyone has seen

He gallops back to his room slamming the door behind him

His room seeming endless and infinite

He roams through the rows and rows of books over looking each copy

Finally coming to his room he sits on the edge of his bed

Inhaling an exhaling with great intensity

Gliding his finger tips over the sheets

Leaning over to smell the scent of her on his bed spread

Hugging the comforter as if it was her

Throwing himself back to lay flat he gives out a loud cry

Saying "Why! Why!" his agony protruding through the walls into the street

His eyes widen to the fullest as he shoots his attention to the ringing of the bell tower outside

Muttering to himself as he leaps from the bed he mutters "It's almost time, she is almost here"

"Almost here! Almost here!" "Hurry hurry"

Right as the knock at the door comes he turns the knob to the left and swings it open

The Story of Two

What’s the time? As he looks to his stereo clock on the dash. It reads a quarter past twelve. Wrapping around the corners and through the trees his car speeds by the vacant houses. His head filled with ideas and words magnified by the lyrics of the song. The winds blow through his window into his hair. Puffing on his cigarettes his destination is set. The drive is in cruise considering the number of times it has been driven. Burning off the stress of the days past he keeps his eyes peeled on the passing lines below. His smile turns to a slight giggle, a muttering laugh. The volume knob twisted a notch or two higher putting him in an nonexistent world to the public. His dreams projected onto his windshield making a movie of delightful colors and make believe characters. Whistling in the wind, raising his arms to conduct the band in front of him. He is off to convert his dreams to realities by seeing the woman of his fantasy. A couple of miles of dreaming will settle when his eyes meet hers. They live in their own world combining the reality of the real world with imaginary life like scenarios.

It’s half past twelve as she looks to her mobile. Looking up to the dark blue night she inhales a drag of her cigarette wondering where he could be. The shapes and shades pop off the materials in front of her eyes and dance off the table. She watches as these images walk around like people on the balcony she sits on. She sings her love songs to the owls perching in the trees. The glass separates her from society. A text message arrives to the cell phone she is clinching and a smile grows onto her face. It reads “Je t’aime ma cherie.” unfolding her heart, crumbling at her joints she is warm. She glows with joy and her response is known only to him. Her friends walk up her arms and climb up her legs, each one a different color or shape they giggle and laugh with each other. All at once they leap into her brain as if jumping off a high dive, splattering onto the walls creating her magnificent masterpiece.

Parking on the slanted hill and rummaging through his things he grabs his keys and a half smoked pack of cigarettes with his lighter already in his pocket. One foot at a time he steps out of his car shutting the door behind him. As he strolls up to the door he looks down to make sure everything is in order. Running his hand through his hair he knocks on the door. A silent pause rises from the ground. He checks behind him and to the sides not exactly sure what he is looking for. The door cracks open and her head pokes around it hiding her body from the night. He smiles as big as the moon in the delight to see her. Stepping inside to see her fully, he rests his mind in awe of the beauty in front of him. She has mixed blond hair chopped below her jaw line. Amazing creamy blue eyes that glow with the moonlight. Her body flows from her powerful shoulders down to her little toes. She is unexplainable. The details of this woman should be illegal. She stands there in her white v-neck shirt with her little black lace panties. Pulling his eyes to hers she smiles and does a giddy shake. Bundling up into his arms she looks up with those lips as soft as feathers. They gently press their lips together with a sigh of relief. “Home” he says looking around the room. She takes his hand and leads him through the long unlit hallway to the stairs. Ascending up the stairs he twists her around to kiss her once more. Falling downward they meet the final stair with their bodies laying. Crawling to the empty room, they overwhelm each other with their presence. Remembering the distance between them they absorb as much as they can of each other. These two can sit and stare into one another for days and days. As they lay next to each other studying the hands and rings of the other the colors and characters creep out of the skin and veins of the man meeting the slithering shapes and shades of the woman bursting from her heart they project their movie onto the ceiling. Laughing and dancing they spend their nights warm from this day on.

It was dark that night with the whisper in the trees and the wind beneath his knees. Stretched out on the road he laid waiting for the proposal of his enemies. He had a nervous stomach with his clinching palms around his neck. Granted by the owls and the raccoons he laid for days. Muttering the various words that brought him there. Combining them into sentences humming them as if he was on stage. Dancing on his back, loving towards the stars. The neighbors knew him so they let him. He thanked them from his hand, as a wave to the crowd of animals. He was wearing his rags that were worn and torn. His thoughts became his visions on the night blue skyline. The car lights created spot lights on his musical make believe podium. He sang the words high and low playing the parts for both. He never questioned the time or the day, he would just lay and lay and lay. No blankets or pillows those were for the comfort needing little boys. He never stood or walked for days. Until one day when he suddenly shot to his toes and walked away. The neighbors came out in their robes and slippers walking to the sidewalk softly speaking to themselves the questions that have arose. With a glance he acknowledged the people nodding his head and waving he spoke the words "This town is yours and I have over stayed my stay so on this day I will get up from my lay and walk away." Turning to the crowd with his bow he disappeared into the leaves of the trees and every year on that day you can hear him when the setting sun sets. The animals come out and play there instruments in honor of the little boy who laid.

Sitting in your comfortable plaid chair with your legs propped up on the arm of the couch.

Mumbling the unspoken words that will never find there way to the ear of the coming.

The bottle of scotch you clench between your finger tips slowly disperses throughout your veins.

You usually never allow yourself to smoke inside the home but tonight, oh tonight is different. It's worth it.

The dark of the night crept onto you like a cloud surrounding the beach.

Your two open eyes keep the ghosts at bay.

Sitting directly in front of the door, still mumbling, still chain smoking.

You go over possible accidental deaths that could have occurred on her way home.

Shaking your head, you search the watch on your left wrist, feeling your forehead.

You convince yourself that you are not tired.

Where is she? Why has she not come home? You ask yourself.

The insecure rage stumbles out of your mind into the real world, coming in the form of a bottle thrown across the room.

Shattering glass explodes ten feet away on the wall with the picture of you two at the carnival.

Friend is a funny word.

A friend can come in any form you want it to.

The hardest part to grasp about friends is the fact that not all people are meant to be your friends.

Friends can either be short or long term.

The people that say "they were never really friends in the first place" is a lie.

They were your friend or maybe even your close friend at that, they just weren't one of your long term friends.

Just because you grew apart does not mean you take them out of the friend category.

Most of the time when friends grow apart there is that feeling of rejection or anger towards the opposite person.

The best thing to do in my mind is figure out who your long term friends are and nurture those friendships.

Be selfless and caring so that in the long run you will still have those friends next to you.

If you put to much effort into those dying relationships then you will come out empty and alone.

Evaluate your friends.

I have been told a lot of things, none of which have helped me to find enjoyment in my life.

I think people tend to stress about the little meaningless speed bumps more than important things.

I have found that life takes patience and perseverance to stay grounded and stable.

The early sun rise in it's self is proof enough to be joyful in your life.

God created light for us so we didn't have to live in the dark, yet most people I know think the morning is boring and or annoying.

God shows us that we don't have to live in darkness.

I look at the morning as a blessing and the reassurance.

When that sun peaks its head over the mountain tops it is soothing.

Remember how blessed we are.

Looking at life not worrying about the small things is the single most enjoyable state of mind I have come to.

The cold turns to heat and the steam begins to rise

Humming from the overhead vent vibrates through the tile

The sliding door squeaks shut behind him

Flushed with warm water

An array of feminine products absurdly stating nonsense

The droplets of water piling up on the glass and separately make a break for the bottom

Pipes pump the water from the ground up through and rattle their way out

His hair is drenched and his body soaked

The aroma of the soap flutters through the air

At the cream colored wooden door comes a knock

Through the water stained glass he sees a mouth filled out with white teeth

Her clothing drops the floor

The glass slides and she steps in

He slips into a lusting adventure

Half past eleven and he clicks the knob three to the right

The water is off and towels are snatched

The flowery rug leaves the evidence of two sunken into it

It's 5:30 in the morning and I placed myself on the highest of the three steps.

The sun has just about an hour until it is fully visible.

You can still hear the owls and night critters.

The stillness of the morning is overwhelming.

A slight haze has set up shop in the sky,

Waiting to be burned by the rays.

The droplets of dew on the grass trickle down into the soil.

Flowers are opening up to breath in the crisp morning air.

The birds have left the young and are pecking the worm holes for breakfast.

The trees have solidified to statues.

Sprinklers take there cue like an orchestra, Simultaneously springing out of the ground.

The humans have their eyes shut awaiting the alarm clocks,

Awaiting to burst out of their homes and ruin this beautiful morning.

Feelings

The scars and wounds I bear are visible like the stripes of a zebra.

I can dress myself up and still they burn through my clothes.

These marks show on my skin no matter how I try to cover them.

I carry my emotions in a set of crates that I drag behind me.

My feelings do not always make it out into the world,

but when they do they tear down buildings and rip apart streets.

It's like climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower

and throwing one of those crates off the side.

The impact and effect it has at the bottom,

Is the same effect as when you open up my heart.

Gods tears poured onto the sidewalks this morning, confining me to the 10x12 room lit by weary light bulbs. The wind is strong today, turning the trees into hula dancers. The dripping drip drop onto the windowsill starts a tally of scratch marks on my arms. The presence of the cool air is pressed up against the glass which is connected to my cheek. Nature is roaring from the ceiling like a lion. The slithering static bolt bares it’s stem connecting the heavens to the earth. This room is the extent of my world today. I can dream of the outside world and picture clear days, but today I dare not step outside...

Cafe Encounter

She worked Monday through Friday at the corner cafe a block from my flat, she started at 9 o'clock every morning so I arrived at 8:40 so I didn't look to awkward always being there. I was always busy and working on my book so it didn't look like I was only there for her. I sat out on the patio confined to the outside area because of my addiction. I could see her walking from her bus stop, she had her routine, she would step off the bus and immediately start scurrying her little hands through her bag. The bag was ratting but unique, it wasn't dirty but it wasn't very posh, it was... I guess the word for it would be artsty. So she would scrounge through this artsy bag while still standing at the bus stop that was a quarter of a block away, pulling out her rings and placing them on her fingers and then finally she would stop and a cigarette would magnetically find her lips followed by a match. When she would light this cigarette every morning at the bus stop she was almost in slow motion. Her hair would flutter around her neck and her hand would slowly bring the lit match to the tip of the cigarette. She would take a drag and look from left to right for oncoming traffic. By the time she looked right she would be half way in the street already. Stepping onto the curb across the street she would glance down at her watch and continue towards the cafe. By the time she arrived at the cafe she would be squishing the cigarette into the earth. She would swing the door open and walk in and put her little green apron on, fix her hair say her hellos to the staff and a few regular customers. Usually she would see me but never say a word. If anything she would give me a courtesy head nod. After doing her rounds throughout the cafe she walked up to my table and said, "Hi Samuel, how are we today?" as I responded "I'm doin-" she interrupted me and said "Do you need another coffee?" I didn't know what to say after being stopped halfway through my sentence, so I just said "Yes please, that would be great." She grabbed my empty cup and turned and walked back to the bar. I just sat finishing my cigarette. I sat at the cafe for another hour before I asked for my check, the check came and I paid the bill and for some odd reason I decided to write on the little square napkin my phone number with a note underneath reading

Pushing my chair out and standing up I swung my jacket on, ruffling all of my papers together extinguishing my last cigarette and walking out from under the umbrellas and trees into the sunshine. Slipping my sunglasses onto my face softly and lighting another cigarette pausing in front of the cafe and hailing a cab to go to the studio...
